Internal Project: Earth RenderDecember 2008

Earth Render - Distance
Earth Render - Close
For an internal project at space150, I had the opportunity to do a semi-realistic render of the earth. The model needed to rotate, and be viewed from various angles and distances. That being the case I created 3 separate shaders in Mental Ray that would react according to the lighting rig. Satellite maps from the Nasa repository were used for the textures, and modified for desired color and layering. The renders were composited with a star field background for the final piece.

Portal Wallpaper "There you are..."September 2008

Portal Wallpaper
I'm still enjoying the game, Portal. I decided to start on a few wallpapers about the game not too long ago. I finally got some time to complete this 3d one. The render is of the ever watching camera of GLaDOS, the infamously insane Aperture Science computer. I modeled a higher poly model to make it appear as realistic as possible. I don’t know about you, but that red glow is a little creepy!

This 3D render is designed around the museum of the future for space150's 20th version. This was created as an R&D project for space150’s VP Technology Marc Jensen, who was speaking at Flashbelt on behalf of space150 and needed a new wallpaper.

First rendered in May 2006, the space150 outdoor sign finally became a reality in June 2008. In the end, they had to cut it down to half the original size, due to Minneapolis building codes. (Note: I did not create the actual design on the sign.)

space150 Version 20 InvitationFebruary 2008

Title
It’s not every day the company passes a milestone in history, and likewise, the big cheese usually doesn't make requests directly. Version 20 was a big deal for space150, so the invitation to the party needed to be just as special. I decided to design the invitation around all the imagery utilized in the previous 19 versions, as well as those of our clients and from the culture of space150.

Relic 3D MineJuly 2007

Relic 3D Mine
Relic is probably one of my favorite projects at space150. Relic, being a video game developer, was open to some more explosive creative content than is usual. Working with the designer of the site and the lead Flash developer at space150, I was charged with bringing the Relic mine to the center stage of the site. Using 3ds Max and Mental Ray, the lurking undersea mine came to life in this animation. I also created the 3D pre-loader and flipping "Relic" logo in the navigation bar.

MGM Mirage: CityCenter Las Vegas PitchFebruary 2007

MGM CityCenter
CityCenter is MGM's latest attraction on the Las Vegas strip. The project was a prototype site that space150 pitched to MGM as part of a new business proposal. My role in the project was to render 3D stills of the CityCenter layout and also to storyboard an introduction animation for the site. The high-contrast architectural visualization renders helped to drive the designers' direction during the design process of the site.
